Under the direction of the great Warners director Michael Curtiz, Cagney played a racketeer again, but in a light-hearted film. He tries to win over Bette Davis, in her first film with him. Cagney recalled in his biography her unhappiness at the time, she apprently was anxious to leave to make "Of Human Bondage" for R.K.O.  Not the most pleasent person on the set, but did her job as a pro. The two remained friends  though, and Cagney wrote a little something for her AutoBiography years later.
"Jimmy Cagney's latest pictorial feature, jimmy the gent is a swift-paced comedy in which he gives another of his vigorous, incisive portrayals"
